Concert style poster representing myself

My Life in Ad
"Mom Code"

I wanted to do an MTV reality show of my life. Basically showing how Im juggling school full-time, work, dance and a baby at the same time and not be referred as  a "single mom" because Im not.  A lot of these shows focus on the "drama" and failures of young girls but I want to show how I know how to balance my life and not be part of the statistics that they do talk about in those reality tv shows.

Dorian: My Life in Adds final

These posters are about decisions that have had a strong impact in my life, the first one is about the two career paths I had to chose from (there are two different samples since I could not decide which layout I preferred) The second one is about choosing between staying at my homeland or moving to the states. (The concept of this one is to make the US look like the Disney logo, or the 'magic land' and the bars in front of the Cuban flag mean the restrictions of living there and the fact that you are a prisoner in your own country) They are designed simple, made to look like some kind of doodle or sketch to reference the innocence or idealized notions I had of these options when I had to make these decisions.

Roels Final Critique Green City Market

When I think of urban market places dedicated to sustainable farming I believe advertising promotions should be conservative in resources, lively, and functional; much like a farm itself.

I chose by duo chromatic color palette in order to reduce printing waste, though the colors are evocative of life, energy, health, and fun. The content is meant to provide the vistor a way to navigate the market, inspire them to purchase goods, but ultimately provide them with usable information as well as the delighting feature of a poster all wrapped up into one source. While these all could be done separately, as one cohesive printed material it reduces cost and waste to Green City Market. The white space should be assumed as the texture of recycle paper, so it would be more of a natural color as anything that is truly white in a product has been bleached. The layout folds into quarters to a size that would easily fit in a persons pocket or purse, allowing freedom of their hands as well as providing them a space to place it to reduce litter around the area.

I am happy with how this project came out and put a lot of thought and research into my choices. I hope you enjoy, and visit the market! It is delicious.

My life in advertising final - DeVecchis

So for my life in advertising piece, I wanted to do a self portrait using collage to incorporate things that I feel like make up my personality or are important to me. I used snipits of things people have wrote me, comic books, crossword puzzles, different languages, etc. I then used one of my favorite little poems of Shel Silverstein that tells you to just be yourself, be unique, and create something that has never been seen before.

Herzog - Rebrand Final - AJM

I made all of the re-branding materials (logos, packaging, products, and advertisements) for this assignment on Illustrator, although the copies visible here are unfortunately the JPEG translations.  The primary intended subject of the materials is a re-brand of AJM Packaging Corporation’s current brand persona, which I evaluated to be too corporate and uptight for a company that sells brown paper bags and paper plates; there is potential to bring an emotive quality to this company, and I hope that I conveyed a nostalgic, sentimental association with these somewhat frivolous products. All of the re-brand materials are unified by geometric shapes  through the use and inspiration of Bauhaus 93 typeface, as well as by a monochromatic color scheme in red, blue, and green.

I chose to re-brand AJM Packaging Corporation because I “worked” with them for a previous assignment in which I was asked to find a common packaged product and write a paragraph as though I was the primary target for that product.  My paragraph came from the viewpoint of a mother who packs her children’s lunches every day with AJM brown paper bags, just as her mother did for her.  I believe that for this brand, in a market where “brands” tend to not matter, nostalgia is a key selling point.  Brown paper bags are ultimately wasteful (we have more efficient ways of transporting food), but those who use them perhaps do so because of the associations they carry with brown bag lunches.  Therefore, I took AJM Packaging Corporation in a retro, nostalgia-infused direction.  I was inspired by the geometric forms of logos from the 1950s and early 1960s, as well as the monochromatic color schemes.  I also created an elephant “critter” for the brand, using the same forms as the traditional logo, and employed it in a separate logo and as a potential product, stamped onto the brown paper bags.  Because I am marketing to parents, I want visible callbacks to brands of the past, but because it is a brand that sells products primarily used for children, I also want it to be “kid-friendly” and appropriately colorful.

My intent behind this re-brand was to give a personality to a brand that current lacks one.  I could have taken AJM Packaging Corporation in any direction and it would have potentially worked, but because I feel that the products lend themselves well to retro/nostalgic associations, I chose to work in that direction.  I think that the re-brand, with regards to the packaging and logos, will appear to the audience as a pop of life and personality in a market that is often viewed as boring.  Brown paper bags are all about the same price, so given the choice between a stuffy, boring brand and a newly remodeled, colorful brand, I hope that customers will gravitate towards the latter.  With regards to the advertising, I hope that it reinforces brown bag lunches as a sentimental connection between parent and child, while also injecting some humor via the stereotypical “embarrassing” phrases parents leave on lunch bags.  I think that this re-brand is ultimately successful because it gives AJM Packaging Corporation a personality and different image, but does so with purpose; often re-brands seem unnecessary or done simply for aesthetics (which isn’t always a bad thing), but here, I did research and completed the stages necessary when thinking about a re-brand.  I am most proud of the formal executions of the logo and critter.  The area that needs the most work is the advertising, which I think could benefit from a tagline; I planned to include “embarrass them” for additional humor but thought it was unnecessary and now I regret it.

My Life in Advertising - "Art Nouveau"
For this final project, I chose Art Nouveau as a style of advertising to represent me. I based this illustration, quite obviously, after the very famous print "Absinthe Robette"by Henry Privat-Livemont. It's always been a famous piece of mine, as is Art Nouveau as a general aesthetic style. Here I chose to omit doing some shading that is still present in AN work, but the thing that catches me the most about this style is how the differing line weights and color add or remove emphasis from certain parts of the drawing.

I chose to do my advertisement in a warm color scheme, since those are my favorite colors - especially pink and red - but I left the water blue to make it stand out and for it to, you know, look like water. I chose to make myself holding a water bottle because I love to work out, and I love drinking water, and it's necessary to stay hydrated when you lift, do cardio, or whatever it is you do to work out.

Trying to stay healthy and creating a healthy body perception for myself is a big part of my life and a constant struggle. I worry about how I look very often, and I make an effort as an "artist" (term used very loosely) to make myself look less than ideal, since many other artists choose to draw their subjects or self portraits highly idealized. I feel like it is important to realize there is always room for improvement, and not to be too sweet to yourself. You have to always strive to change for the better, and I feel I'd rather feel I see the reflection of me 30-35 lbs ago in high school than what may actually exist now since it spurs me to continue fighting.

This advertisement represents me because of the choice in color palette, the choice in style, the fact that I drew this all by hand (of course with the original "Absinthe Robette" as a guide, I will not deny that fact), and because how I chose to stylize myself.

The only thing I wish I could go back and fix, other than adding in some soft shading on the skin and hair, is that I wish I could have made a better font. I created the font with my own stylized handwriting, based off the original text used in "Absinthe Robette", but I feel it is uneven and sloppy. However after working 5 hours on this piece, I needed to give it a rest before I destroyed it any more than I already did.

I hope this piece stands out as something a little strange, since I feel that's where I place in this class.

I chose to do my life in advertising, and portray my journey through school, and the design world. I'm only a sophomore, and i feel like i have a lot more to learn. I chose the quote, "I'm a leaf in the wind watch me soar" to represent the ups and downs, and then making it to the finish, and creating amazing pieces of work.
